About Shoebill Island Camp

Shoebill Island Camp is located on a small piece of high ground in amongst the Bangweulu Wetlands. 5 permanent Meru style tents with en-suite ablutions are tucked into an indigenous thicket of trees and face out to the wetlands. These trees and camp vegetation make for an excellent haven for birds and many species are active here throughout the day

Each of the 5 Meru-style tents have a simple cabinet for clothes and the ablutions consist of a wash basin, flush toilets and bucket shower system where staff will fill the tank with enough hot water for a shower whenever you require. A small reed and thatch dining and chill area is located at the west end of the camp and this is where meals, drinks and tea and coffee can be enjoyed whilst discussing the day’ adventures.
Shoebill Island Camp is perfectly positioned in the Bangweulu Wetlands in an island thicket of indigenous trees. The camp is always alive with bird movement and the sound of thousands of lechwe sloshing in the waters around camp at night will stay with you long after you leave. Sunrise over the Bangweulu Wetlands can be viewed on the eastern side of camp and guarantees the most stunning start to the African day.
